Angela Langley Says She Shot Rodney Shane Babb as He Tried to Rape Stacey Patton

Police believe all three may have been taking drugs. I commented on the oddness of this story before, now it just keeps getting odder:

Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain said it’s an unusual case because of having two female suspects.

“It’s very rare,” Chastain said. “First, two women murdering an individual — and then trying to dispose of the body added into that. That’s something we haven’t seen here in Laurens.”

Chastain said that Babb, Patton and Langley may have been using drugs.

According to the incident report, Langley said she shot Babb because he tried to sexually assault Patton.

Chastain said after the women left Babb’s body in the mobile home, they then rented an SUV and bought supplies to clean-up the mobile home that belonged to Patton’s family.

Investigators said that Langley and Patton went to a man and asked him to help them get rid of the body. Instead, the man turned out to be a confidential informant.

Confidential informants are usually criminals who secretly tip cops off to crimes and gather intelligence for authorities in exchange for leniency or money. The fact that the women knew someone who was a C.I. who also just happened to be someone they thought would help them get rid of a body tells me they were shoulders deep in criminality. I’m thinking they were addicts and this is starting to sound like either a trick turned bad or a argument amongst addicts over cash, but as more details come out we’ll see.

Two Women Found with Corpse Charged with Murder

Langley Patton Love the Dead

What were they doing with the corpse? We don’t want to know but police are now theorizing that the gruesome twosome killed the man, left, then came back and hung around the place with the body. Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

From WYFF:

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Two women found with a dead man in a trailer are now charged with murder.

According to Lauren’s County Sheriff’s Office, Rodney Shane Babb was shot to death early Friday morning.

The body wasn’t discovered until Saturday afternoon.

Investigators said the women now charged with Babb’s murder, 26-year-old Angela Marie Langley and 19-year-old Stacey Nacole Patton, were found with the body in an abandoned mobile home at 207 Jacqueline Lane in the Ware Shoals area.

Deputies believe the two shot and killed Babb early Friday morning inside the home, left the body, then returned to the home Saturday.

Yikes. Fox Carolina is reporting that the 32-year-old victim died after arguing over money with the pair, and the women returned to figure out a way to dispose of the body. Tragic, but at least that explanation for two murderers returning to visit the corpse of their victim doesn’t make my skin crawl.

Hmmm. A 32-year-old man has two women, one 26 and one 19, in his house who he’s arguing over money with. What ever could the motive be?

Via Crimenews2000 this Index Journal report has more details, including the fact that the almost 40-year-old had an relationship with the teen Stacey Nicole Patton:

Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain said investigators think the two suspects picked the victim up Thursday night and brought him to the trailer owned by a member of Patton’s family. The victim’s car was found on Indian Mound Road in Ware Shoals, and he had possibly run out of gas.

“Some time during the night we believe they shot the victim in the head and left the scene,” Chastain said.

A .380 caliber handgun, believed to be the murder weapon, has been recovered, he added.

Friday the suspects rented a car in Greenwood and purchased cleaning supplies in Simpsonville, Chastain said. Laurens investigators received a tip on the murder Saturday morning and began surveillance on the two women, who led them to the trailer.

Chastain said the suspects were inside the trailer with the victim and the cleaning supplies when deputies arrived.

Though the motive for the murder is unclear, Chastain said the victim and Patton had a relationship.

“We’re not sure for how long, but for some time, but an off and on relationship,” he said.

Chastain said more charges are pending.

As a commenter at WYFF said while I was reading about this story, no drugs involved here!

Attempted Kidnapping in Taylors Still Under Investigation

Taylors kidnapping suspect
Taylors kidnapping suspect

The story of an attempted kidnapping that reportedly took place in Taylors Monday morning continues to evolve.  It is now being reported that after accepting a ride from a man named Todd, the 15-year-old victim was driven to another location and assaulted.  The girl apparently met “Todd” at a local restaurant last week.

Since the victim was allegedly held against her will for an undetermined period of time, this crime should now be looked at as a kidnapping and assault rather than an attempted kidnapping.

Deputies have released a sketch of the suspect (see above).  He is described as a Hispanic male, 20-30 years of age, with a medium build and a thin mustache.

Tammy Winchester is a Hellcat!

Tammy Winchester is a Hellcat

Don’t worry though, Greenvillians, she’s not local. But this mugshot is so awesome I could not skip over this story. Why’s Tammy so happy? Because getting busted for domestic violence and assaulting an officer might get you and me down, but for Tammy “Hellcat” Winchester it’s just another weeknight:

UNION COUNTY, S.C. — Union police officers arrested a woman Tuesday accused of burning a man with cigarettes and spitting on officers.

According to an incident report, officers responded to a domestic call on house on White Oak Street. They said a man, Roger Ford, 55, complained that Tammy Annette Winchester, 49, put a cigarette out on his back and scratched him on the chest and stomach.

Ford said Winchester assaulted him after he threw out her vodka and beer, the report stated.

Officers said they entered the home and found Winchester on a bed. When they started to place her in handcuffs, they said, she began cussing and spitting repeatedly at them.

She spit numerous times on the glass and seat of the patrol car as she was transported to the Union County Detention Center, the report states.

Notice the report says they found her on a bed not in a bed. The less we know about that, the better I’m sure. The soon to be single Winchester sounds like a blast for any middle aged men out there with a sense adventure and a high tolerance for pain, but may I suggest the first date include dinner and an A.A. meeting?

Exit question 1: Judging from the mugshot, are we to assume this is Hellcat happy?

Exit Question 2: If this is how Hellcat reacts to having her booze taken away, what happens when you take her cigarettes?

Uh-Oh: Police Say Taylors Kidnapping Attempt May Not Have Happened as First Described

Interestingly, they’re still looking for a suspect, which I assume means they think an assault did happen and that the victim has some reason for not wanting to finger the right guy. Because the girl is 15, I’ll keep my speculations to myself.

From WSPA:

GREENVILLE – The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday a kidnapping they started investigating Tuesday, concerning a 15-year old girl in Taylors didn’t actually occur, as it was orginially [sic] reported by the victim.

Investigators are now saying the incident does not appear to be a random “stranger on stranger” incident. They say the exact nature of this reported assault is still under investigation.

[...]

Wednesday, the GCSO still said they were seeking a 20-30 year old Hispanic male, with a medium build and a thin mustache.

Investigators said he was driving an older moldel [sic] “boxy” sedan, (possibly a Volvo) in connection with this incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.

What’s with the false reporting these days? The girl had enough injuries that police are still thinking something happened, they just don’t know what yet. Let’s hope this is resolved quickly and the girl is ok.

Update: GreenvilleOnline.com is reporting the girl has told police she recognized the man:

Deputy Matthew Armstrong said the girl has told deputies that she recognized the man who grabbed her wrist on East Belvue Road on Monday morning. They don’t have a suspect name, and no charges have been filed, he said.

The “exact nature” of the reported assault remains under investigation, Armstrong said.

The teen told deputies that she escaped by pulling away from the driver and running, a deputy said in an incident report. Deputies are continuing to look for an older “boxy” red car, which they believe could be a Volvo, Armstrong said.

Strange.
