A Note to Andy McAuliffe: When You’re in a Hole Stop Digging

The father of Jessica Blackham, Andy McAuliffe, has told reporters that he doesn’t think his daughter gave birth to the baby found in the Bi-Lo Center bathroom. From Fox Carolina:

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The father of a woman who police said gave birth at the Bi-Lo Center on Friday night and left her newborn baby in a toilet spoke only to FOX Carolina’s Adrian Acosta on Wednesday.

Jessica Blackham, 24, of Easley, turned herself in to police on Tuesday night. She was charged with unlawful neglect of a child and two counts of felony child abuse, and released on $30,000 bond.

In a FOX Carolina exclusive interview Wednesday, Andy McAuliffe, Blackham’s father, said his daughter didn’t know she was pregnant.

“We’ve been honest and forthright with the police,” McAuliffe said. “We’ve been very careful to acknowledge that we don’t know if this is Jessica’s daughter. None of her family had any suspicion that she was pregnant.”

In the courtroom, Blackham’s parents told the judge that Blackham doesn’t remember much about the events at the Bi-Lo Center on Friday night. They also said their daughter has amnesia.

Clearly he’s trying to paint his daughter in a better light but this theory of his actually makes it worse for his daughter. Remember, Jessica sought treatment from a medical facility for blood loss and other injuries that are related to giving birth. So if the live Bi-Lo baby wasn’t Blackham’s then at some point she gave birth and no one knows if that baby is alive or dead.

McAuliffe also hangs himself by not keeping track of his own lies. In the same interview with Fox Carolina he says this:

On Saturday, as Blackham was at work, McAuliffe heard reports of a newborn baby found at the Bi-Lo Center. He said that when he talked to Blackham about the baby and if she was the mother, she said, “of course not.”

McAuliffe took Blackham to the hospital and told staff there that her condition might be related to a baby who was born at a Bi-Lo Center. When law enforcement officers arrived, they started asking Blackham questions about the baby.

If McAuliffe and the rest of the family had no idea Jessica was pregnant why did he come home and ask her if the baby was hers? Why isn’t he and the rest of the family concerned about where the baby Jessica did give birth to is? McAuliffe is trying to help his daughter but frankly if she’s not the mother of this baby and no one knows where the one she gave birth to is it’s likely she’s a murderer.

Time to stop digging and get your daughter the help she needs, and put some of that love into your grandchild.

A man named Jason Jones came forward and says he dated Blackham around the time she became pregnant. if DNA proves he’s the father he says he’ll step up so that’s good news. Maybe McAuliffe can take a few lessons from Jones on fatherhood.

Sorry to be pedantic, but I think it’s “when you’re in a HOLE, stop digging”.

Wait… I thought she was married? That there was a guy she was dating at the time she would have conceived this baby creates all sorts of new questions, like when did she get married, for starters.

She got married young and she and the husband have been separated for a while. He says she’s crazy and pulls stupid stunts all the time.

Ah… yes, I did read that in the other follow-up you posted.

I hope the baby’s father will be a good dad. That poor little one has already been through too much.

Did you see any information on who had custody of the 4 yr old? I’m hoping it’s her father…
