Hopefully he also likes spending time in the joint and registering as a sex offender. This one’s a little outside Greenville County but it’s illustrative of the times and what kind of animals we’re dealing with these days.

HARTSVILLE—A man crept through a window in a Hartsville family ‘s home as they slept Friday, carried a 9-year-old girl from her bed and sexually assaulted her before trying to kidnap her from the house, Hartsville Police Chief Tim Kemp said.
Shortly after the crime was reported, police arrested Dearl James Douglas, 20, of 759 Azalea Circle in Hartsville and charged him with first-degree burglary, criminal sexual conduct with a minor and attempted kidnapping, Darlington County Detention Center bookings reports show.

It happened at 12:40 a.m. at a home on Swift Creek Road in Hartsville, when the suspect removed a screen from a back bedroom window and entered the home where a family was sleeping.

Police said the suspect walked into a 9-year-old’s bedroom and carried the sleeping girl to the room where he entered the home.

Witnesses said the girl was drifting in and out of sleep and thought it was a family member carrying her.

The suspect started to undressed the girl and that’s when she awoke, realized who it was and screamed, Kemp said.

The girl’s grandmother heard her cries and ran to investigate, he said.

The suspect escaped out the window while the grandmother called E-911.

The suspect was captured just a short distance from the family’s home.

Douglas was denied bond by a judge with some decency and common sense. Douglas’ relationship to the victim is unknown, but since he was quickly found it seems likely that he was positively identified early on. That tells me that someone knew him.

This story could have ended much worse. Had he simply taken her we would still be looking for her. Home security is your responsibility, the police are only there to mop up after a crime. Be prepared.

I have gotten a few emails via the contact form from people (who for the most part claim to be women) claiming I’m being too rough on rapists, child rapists, flashers, public masturbaters and all the other assorted sexual deviants that make up the wild and woolly world of sex offenders. I am not interested in what the “ladies” (guttersluts) who carry water for people who’ve sodomized infants thin. Nor do I have any patience for some obese skank who wants to tell me that said infant sodomizer is a “good man” with a “kind heart” who just “made a mistake” that he deserves forgiveness for.

The most recent letter I got was from a woman who has contacted me before. A tedious woman, she has been beating the decomposing horse of an argument that logic had taken out and shot years ago, namely that I should be covering only “local” crime news and thus caring about online activity designed to support the abuse of children isn’t my business. These letters came in reaction to a piece I wrote about a pro-child rape group called SOSEN whose chief operating officer (who goes by the name “Randy English”) recently claimed that sex offender lists were racism … because Jessica Lundsford was White and people who hate child molesters are xenophobes. It was an asinine point and because SOSEN is a national organization whose activities are of concern to any parent I blogged about it.

“Susie Mae” was not happy and wrote me about it. I was, as usual, cordial and charming and sought to brush her off without acrimony. Which I thought worked until a few minutes ago when I received this email in all caps and three times the normal font size. I guess she was really mad:

It just seems you are gunning for sex offenders as a group. The sex registry is huge. It is full of all kinds of people, many of whom hardly did a thing. Urinated in public, teenagers having sex, etc…. I don’t know anything about this Randy but it just seems your site should be to report local crime.

I’m tired of these canards and I don’t want to hear them. In the future, before you decide to “school me” about how unfair it is that your man is locked up for “a misunderstanding” in which he was caught with pictures of children being raped, please read my response to Susie Mae. While the details may change, I assure you that the spirit of my answer to you will be the same:

Name three people on the registry for urinating in public. Name three teens on the registry for having sex. You’re either a retard who believes the most asinine of lies or (more likely) you’re one of the guttersluts that groupie around for sex offenders, no doubt giving them easy access to your children.

You want to know who’s in Sosen darlin’? Here’s a quick list:

Shirley Lowery- The CEO of Sosen. She maintains that 9-year-old Jessica Lundsford had a “consensual relationship” with John Coey and that her vicious murder was an “assisted suicide”

Clay Keys – A Level 3 sex offender who once threatened to kill me. At the same time he lurked on social networks pretending to be a little girl and cyber stalked several activists.

Linda Pehrson – who is still married to the man who molested her daughter, and now claims the crime is no big deal. She’s also a con artist who uses assumed identities to give interviews and drum up support for her groups.

Jackie Sparling – Her husband was caught with another man trying to lure a 13-year-old to his home to become his sex slave, which included a plan to have her squeeze out children he would also abuse. Despite the fact that it would be impossible for a wife to not know he was planning this she was never charged and continues to work to promote the idea that crimes like his never happen.

The list goes on. Most are themselves people who have raped children and are now involved in a group that works to keep them from reforming. You don’t care because like the scum above you’re all tickled inside by the thought of bedding down one of these miscreants, but decent people do care.

How about this; Stop contacting me. If all you have to say is sex offenders are awesome and we should feel sorry for them you’re not going to find a sympathetic ear here. Why don’t we end this charade and you stop contacting me and I promise that if I ever meet a person who’s sodomized a child and needs a lap dance I’ll let you know.

One of the reasons I include so many women in my list above is to point out to you child rape groupies that I know what kind of person you are. There is no comparison to how sex offenders are treated and how Blacks were treated during Jim Crow, or how Jews were treated in Europe or whatever other kind of offensive nonsense you’re vomiting out between letting these perverts gag you while holding onto the pig tails they make you put in your hair.

I’m not interested. There is no debate as to whether people who rape children are evil. There is no possibility that a person who pleasures themselves to images of children being abused is being misunderstood. There is a right and a wrong here.

People who sexually exploit and abuse children have recidivism rates near 50% when they’re being watched. Registries are important tools for daycare centers, teen programs, single parents and any other person who has children to use to ensure they’re making the right choices for their kids. Violent felons aren’t allowed to own guns, they are on a registry. People with a history of DUI aren’t allowed to drive, they are on a registry. And people who abuse and exploit others for their own selfish sexual gratification aren’t allowed to become teachers or camp counselors.

They’re on a registry where they belong.

I don’t care how awesome you think your boyfriend or husband is. If he’s raped someone or molested someone he will not get sympathy from me, because I have morals. I save my sympathy for the victims, not the victimizers.

So before you bother to contact me, remember that I only care about the victims. Whatever sob story you’re peddling won’t change that.

61-year-old Courtney Lynn Campbell was busted by Mauldin police after he was caught sharing child pornography over a peer-to-peer network by the Crimes Against Children Task Force. The Fountain Inn resident distributed pictures of very young children engaged in sex acts and will be charged with one count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, 2nd Degree. He’s looking at a 2-10 year stretch so he’ll be out in a couple of years.

Campbell’s computer was found to contain more child porn when examined by the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office and he’s got a $30,000 bond.

I wonder if he’ll like peer-to-peer sharing in prison as much as he does from the comfort of his home?

Court documents show that an undercover detective posing as an 11-year-old girl encountered Cutter in an online chat room on May 18, 2009, Tompkins said in a press release Friday.

During the course of the online conversation, Cutter proposed that the “girl” engage in sexual acts with him in a hotel room he had rented, the press release said. He left a “do not disturb” sign on his hotel room door traveled to the Blue Ridge Mall to try and pick up the girl, Tompkins said in the release.

At a music store inside the mall, Cutter was arrested by Henderson County sheriff’s detectives, according to testimony offered at court hearings.

Cutter was 27 at the time. Think about that for a second. He was a 27-year-old man renting a motel room to have sex with an 11-year-old girl.

I haven’t found a picture of him yet but when I do I’ll post it.

Sam Young, 16, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and criminal sexual conduct Wednesday morning in a Greenville courtroom.

The judge accepted a recommendation of 25 years in prison during the sentencing phase of the hearing.

The judge called it “a tragic case.”

Nearly 40 members of Dymia Woody’s family were present. A News Channel 7 reporter spoke to some family members. They said they were displeased with the length of the sentence for Young and felt it should be longer.

The family is right. I wonder how long Young would have got if Dymia was White.

Young has been moved out of family court and will be tried as an adult now. The Woody family is finally going to get some closure. From Fox Carolina:

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The teen charged in connection with the slaying of a Greenville County girl nearly two years ago is expected to be in court on Wednesday.

In August 2009, a judge ruled that jurisdiction for the now 16-year-old Young be transferred to general sessions court instead of family court.

Prosecutors said that the ruling means that Young will be tried as an adult rather than a juvenile, which he had been charged as until Friday.

Marcia Barker, from the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, said that Young will be in court to plead, but did not say to what he will plead.

I worked in after school programs for a while before becoming a full time Web content developer and there was nothing that we watched for more than perverts. I worked in YMCAs and we had strict rules in place to prevent even the hint of impropriety, including not letting adults be alone with children or groups of children, not allowing children to be alone with even multiple adults etc. We did this because it was well known that perverts showed up to get access children. I once had to hire a summer camp staff and there were several people who showed up that I wouldn’t hire because they set off alarm bells. They were too interested in kids (when I started working with children I just wanted a job that left me time to do my graduate course work and told the person interviewing me just that – I was hired on the spot) or had reservations about being fingerprinted. When you’re entrusted with other people’s children you cannot be too careful.

So reports that YouthBASE director Bobby Caples was just pinched molesting two children he was asked to care for (hopefully by family members and not by YouthBASE clients) makes me think either Caples is the most patient pervert ever or the YouthBASE staff is not as aware of who they work with as they should be:

GREENVILLE, SC- Greenville Police investigators have arrested the director of a youth program and charged him with committing lewd acts on minors.

Police arrested Robert Francis Caples, 29, of 14 Atwood St., Apt. 1, in Greenville, and charged him with two counts of committing a lewd act upon children under the age of 16, criminal sexual misconduct of a minor under age 11 and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. According to a prepared statement from the Police Department, Caples may have sexually assaulted two children from June 2009-September 2009 while they traveled and resided with him.

The report states that at some point, the children went on a trip with Caples to Texas and when they returned, they told their grandmother that while they stayed with Caples at his home and on the trip, they slept in the same bed and bathed with Caples and did not want to do so. In a warrant obtained by the Greenville Police Department, Caples is also accused of inappropriately touching the children in private places.

The report says that Caples was asked to care for them by their mother.

The article goes on to point out that YouthBASE was a program for troubled children, who are a particularly vulnerable population. Many “troubled” youth have already experienced sexual abuse or exploitation and without proper support and therapy begin to internalize a sexualized identity and victim mentality that leads them into other abusive relationships. They come to expect and accept abuse and thus sexual predators seek out children like this.

So who was providing the therapy and guidance for the program? YouthBASE only lists one shrink on its website. Here’s Bobby Caples’ bio from the YouthBASE web page:

I’ll reiterate that YouthBASE lists no other therapists on their staff, thus kids needing counseling would be going to a man who is charged with molesting two children. As an aside, sociology degrees are like basket weaving degrees, throw in a “concentration” in African-American studies and what you have is someone who took the easy way through college. Not saying that is a sign of being a pervert, but it should make you question his ability to “implement evidence based behavioral strategies” whatever that means. What you have is a person who is not really interested in psychology finding an easy way to get a psychology credential. That’s a warning bell to me.

When you put your children into youth programs you must look at safety first. It is in vogue to look for places that are “creative” and “compassionate,” but the reality is you’re giving adults you don’t know access to children. Don’t be afraid to ask to observe the program before enrolling. Look to see if they have procedures in place to ensure children are not left alone with any one adult. You don’t know who you can trust, so you must be able to trust the program.

YouthBase hasn’t released a statement yet, and as of now Caples is being held on $40,000 bond.

The warrant alleges the girl was asked “to send a nude photo of her breast to him via text message.”

The girl told her parents about the message and they contacted law enforcement, according to the warrant.

When the girl didn’t reply to the request, the warrant alleges the sender “tried to coerce her to erase the message.”

Greenville Dragnet doesn’t often cover crimes that occur outside Greenville County, but we never pass up an opportunity to publicize the name of an alleged pervert who lives nearby. Jack Clayton fits the bill.

Clayton has been released on a $10,000 bond.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation maintains the state’s sex offender registry, and is charged with keeping tabs on over 17,000 offenders.  Authorities have lost track of almost 250 registered sex offenders just from metro Atlanta, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

The AJC piece focuses heavily on the plight of much maligned sex offenders who simply want to live in peace.  Anyone have a barf bag?

Authorities claim that citizens need not be concerned about the large number of absconders since the majority of victims know their attackers.

“The people on the registry are not the ones to be concerned about,” said John Bankhead, a spokesman for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which maintains the sex offender registry. “It’s the ones who live right up under your nose. Stranger-on-stranger sex crimes do happen. But most cases involve people the victim already knows.”

Studies commissioned by the U.S. Justice Department suggest that children are more likely to be sexually assaulted by family members, baby sitters or authority figures such as teachers or coaches than by strangers. One analysis found that in 60 percent of cases in which boys were the victims and in 80 percent involving girls, the child knew the assailant.

But it’s easier to present statistics neatly wrapped and tied with a bow than it is to explain to distraught parents that a known sexual predator has their missing child. Nearly ten percent of registered sex offenders in the Atlanta area are off the radar of Georgia authorities, and any one of them could be creating new statistics at this very moment. Meanwhile, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is publishing pages torn right from the playbook of pedophile rights activists.  What’s next?  A sympathetic paean to NAMBLA?

Speer turned himself in at Greenville County Law Enforcement Center and now faces five counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

71-year-old Speer told Greenville County deputies he sexually abused five children between 1982 and 1997.  The victims were members of his family, some of whom accompanied him when he turned himself in.

Matt Armstrong, of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said it was unusual for someone to come to the sheriff’s office front desk, along with some of their alleged victims, and confess to a crime.

“It is a very rare incident that someone would take it upon their free will, basically to come in and talk to law enforcement about this matter,” he said.

According to arrest warrants, Speer forced three girls and two boys to perform oral sex on him. The warrants also accuse Speer of performing oral sex on the children, some as young as four years old. Speer is also accused of forcing the children to have intercourse with him, according to the warrants

Speer is being held on $250,000 bond.
