Cuban National Arrested Smuggling Drugs Over Southern Border?

Cartels maintain connections with FARC (as do Democrats in America) and since FARC is a communist insurgency they have benefited from Cuban “advisers” being allowed to work with them. I’ll assume that this guy got off his leash, but it’s worth watching to see if Cuba is back in the insurgency game. Cuba militarily supported African communist insurgencies throughout the latter part of the 20th century but was widely thought to lack the ability to participate in any more interventions when the Soviet Union collapsed. Chavez and his oil rich Bolivarian Revolution may be changing that however, and Cuban nationals have been reported working for Chavez and his allies in the region. Cuba may also be benefiting from millions of dollars of Medicaid fraud in Florida.

From the U.S. Border Narcotics Intelligence Blog:

Rio Grande Valley Sector – Border Patrol agents seized 4,476 pounds of marijuana, a tractor-trailer, and arrested a national of Cuba at the traffic checkpoint near Falfurrias, Texas. The subject presented himself for inspection and a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle. A scan using non-intrusive inspection technology revealed anomalies in the trailer, and a subsequent search by agents uncovered the marijuana.

I’m keeping an eye on this one.
