“Profiler” Pat Brown Erases Post Claiming Falcon Lake Murder Didn’t Happen

Classy as usual. On or around Oct 20th, Pat Brown, self-styled criminal profiling expert, wrote a post on her blog in support of Dr. Lillian Glass’ assertion that Tiffany Hartley is a liar whose husband was not killed by pirates on Falcon Lake and only racists would believe otherwise. Glass is a “body language expert” (pronounced carnival huckster) whose explanation as to why she “knows” Tiffany Hartley is lying consists largely of her armchair quarterbacking what people who are being shot at would be doing. Having been shot at I find Glass’ musings on what goes through people’s minds in extreme circumstances unconvincing at best. She also “reads” Hartley by watching some YouTube clips of her and decides that a woman whose husband was shot to death wasn’t being clear enough in her description of what happened.

In other words, bunk.

Which Brown eventually figured out because she removed the post from her blog. Luckily, I have a screenshot of my Bloglines feed of her site:

Pat Brown Spreading Smear of Widow

Unfortunately, I was tipped to this outrage after she already deleted the post so I’m not sure just how disgusting her behavior was. Given her history of blaming the victims of violent crime for their own victimization I’m sure it was quite the show. In the past Brown used her incredible profiling “skills” to claim that the Ft. Hood massacre was not related to Jihadism at all and anyone claiming otherwise was a bigot. She is one of a stable of media profilers selling their snake oil to a gullible public, and doing irreparable harm in the process.

So it doesn’t surprise me that she jumped on the politically correct, media friendly bandwagon that claims Hartley is lying, nor does it surprise me that in true mercenary fashion she deleted her claim when evidence to the contrary started to surface. It didn’t even surprise me that Brown would fall for such Internet hokum as this, from Glass’ asinine essay:

While  there  been reports of Mexican pirates in the past, those  who had  any encounters  were all unharmed, as the intention of the pirates  were all about robbery, not shooting for sport.

In Glass’ view, cartel members who hold people at gunpoint are unlikely to shoot people. And “criminal profiler” Pat Brown thought this was worthy analysis? Also not surprising given how little she actually seems to know about crime.

What constantly surprises me is that this crime groupie with an inflated sense of self-importance is taken seriously by the media. She clearly has no idea of what she’s talking about and this is just the latest in long career of being wrong. I dare say that there are few cases where Pat Brown has been proven to have given an accurate profile.

It’s about time we as a society stop allowing this vulture to make a living off the pain and misery of others. The worst crime blogs handle murder and tragedy with more class than Brown and usually have more accurate insight. Brown is a con artist, nothing more, and her supposed profiling is what is truly criminal.

Update: Brown has another version of the essay on the loathsome Women in Crime Ink website. Some hack desperate for a link stuck it in the comments, but he’s banned for having his groupies spam my comments section with his blogspot link. So here it is. Notice that as with the Ft Hood analysis Brown’s profiling seems to suspiciously support  her political leanings and hostility to younger women. In this version she backs away from the “Tiffany killed her husband” theory popular with the mob in the comments because, like I said, she sees the writing on the wall and can’t afford to be wrong yet again. But she’s still doucheily accusing a widow of being complicit in her husband’s death with only her mythical skills as a profiler (which again led her to claim the Ft Hood shooting wasn’t terrorism even though it has been proven to be) which consists of internalizing the fake science of profiling presentation on television.

I used to like Lillian Glass when I read her profiling on the Casey Anthony case. Ever since she wrote a piece on Tiffany Hartley, who I personally believe, I have thought twice about Dr. Glass and her blog.

Another blog that is absolutely ridiculous is statement analysis by Seamus Oreilly or something like that…reading it gives me hives!

  2. Rob Taylor on October 23rd, 2010 4:07 pm

I know what you mean. The problem is these people present themselves as experts or authorities when they actually aren’t.

  3. Gina on October 23rd, 2010 7:01 pm

Tiffany Hartley has been inconsistent & it’s not little things but big issues such as David was shot in the neck, no he was shot in the forehead, wait no it was the back of the head. Saying she doesn’t want justice just “dna” is weird & suspicious to say the least. Not taking a polygraph which we know is not admissable in court, but the fact she’s reluctanct to take on tells me she’s not being 100% honest on what occured at Falcon Lake.

Mark Klaas 101- Take a polygraph to remove yourself as a suspect so LE can move on & find the real killer.

And there’s more bullshit in her “stories” as she calls them & her demeanor, but you get my drift & it doesn’t take a profiler to know Tiffany Hartley is a liar.

  4. Rob Taylor on October 23rd, 2010 7:35 pm

And you’re basing this one what? Have you been shot at? I have. And no one I knew died when I did but I still can’t recollect the exact details of everything.

Polygrapghs are pseudo-science and I would never take one because the world is full of suckers (like you)who think measuring blood pressure on a laptop proves something. There’s video of Gene Simmons beating a lie detector test on the web. And if you are upset, you know because your old man just died, you will fail a polygraph.

Like Glass and Brown you want the woman to be a liar to prove a politically correct point.Just like when Brown claimed the Ft Hood Shooter wasn’t a Jihadist.

    Tiffany Family, David’s Family

Note the number of hours Tiffany Hartley spent with the FBI and Mexican investigators suggests that this was not a normal “witness” statement delayed due to “translation” issues. This suggests that not only do Mexican officials doubt her story, but so does the FBI, though nothing has been stated.

Note also the behavioral aspects of the case, including:

    1. Constantly changing story
    2. Linguistic indicators of deception including attempts to conceal the identity of the “people” (gender neutral; see below) involved.
    3. Lack of grieving
    4. Quickness to “move on” with life
    5. No call for justice for David.
    6. No polygraph taken to end questioning.
    7. The physical logistics of her story

I do not believe that Tiffany Hartley is just “inexperienced” and “young” as to why her story changes and she has not taken a polygraph.

In recent murder cases, victims’ families have done the expected: they call for justice for their loved one lost, and to protect the public from a killer. This has been consistently absent from Tiffany Hartley’s statements and interviews.

It should also be noted that as was said here, and by Dr. Lillian Glass, the family of David Hartley likely has discussed this case among themselves noting the discrepancies with each appearance.

    Hartley Witness Statement Not Reliable

    Tiffany Hartley Moves

Missing American’s wife moves back to Colorado By the CNN Wire Staff

  7. Gina on October 23rd, 2010 7:57 pm

Peter wrote: On Monday, Tiffany Hartley urged Mexican authorities to keep looking for the body before she left Texas for her home in Colorado.”I don’t want to leave without my husband,” she said. “That’s what it comes down to.”

Does anyone else find it odd that Tiffany Hartley made this statement when, according to her own “story”, she left her husband dead or dying in Falcon Lake? Was it easier for her to leave him then? Just wondering.

She also went back on her word & moved to CO in less than 3 weeks after the murder.

  8. Rob Taylor on October 23rd, 2010 8:03 pm

Are you retarded? You’re coming to a post I wrote about gullible suckers believing self-appointed experts who have no expertise in what they are talking about and your answer is to point out another self-appointed expert?

I have been shot at. I know how difficult it is to remember details after the incident.

The Mexican investigator looking into this case WAS MURDERED:

Pirates have SHOT AT several American citizens before.

But Peter Hyatt – a man with no credentials, pulls some armchair analysis out of his fat ass and you think that debunks what I’m saying?

I know you’re a crime groupie and need to believe the people you send nude photos to or whatever are important but seriously, WTF? You’re claiming that some guy’s free blogspot blog is legitimate source of information?

And do not spam my comments with your friends links.

  9. Karen S. on October 23rd, 2010 8:07 pm

One problem here is that Hartley has two (at east) versions of the alleged shooting.

In one, she makes a wild & amazing Wonder Woman type escape weaving her jetski between the hail of gunfire as she managed to outrun the “pirates”.

In another story, she stopped and chatted with them (about “10 feet away”, she said) after they shot the husband. The “pirates” had a discussion and decided out of the goodness of their hearts to just let her leave without further incident. After they left her, according to this version of her story, she went on her merry way.

So, as you can see, the real question concerns her two contradicting endings. One, fleeing a hail of bullets and escaping with her life and the other, where she talks with the “pirates” & then she just leaves ( her “hail of gunfire, no desperate escape” version).

  10. Rob Taylor on October 23rd, 2010 8:08 pm

Peter Hyatt is a hack. What would you do if your old man was shot on a lake while people were still chasing you? What would your husband want you to do?

Does Peter have an answer to the CNN story about the Mexican investigator getting murdered? I suppose Tiffany ran across the border and hacked his head off as part of the cover up.

Let me guess, you’re also a 9/11 truther?

Tiffany Hartley Interview 18 October, 2010

COOPER: And I know you were meeting with Mexican investigators for much of today. Did you get the feeling that — that they believed you or that they didn’t believe your story?

HARTLEY: No, I do believe that they believe my story. I mean, they — we had people from the state and then, also federal. So everyone has come together to get my statement, and that’s why it’s taken so long, just so that everybody has the statement. Everybody can’t say that they don’t have it. And you know, they do believe me. I do trust that.

Note that Tiffany Hartley makes a weak assertion with “I believe”, which means that there is room for disagreement in whether or not they believe her story. She could have said, “they believe me” but instead, she qualified it with “I believe that they believe…” This is sensitive.

Note also that she calls the account of her husband’s murder and her near murder, “my story”.

    “My” shows ownership.
    “story” suggests drama presented.

There is a high percentage of accounts given by guilty parties in which they use the word “story”. Honest people generally do not say “story” and will, if challenged, often take offense if someone uses the word “story”. Often in court, guilty parties will say they are “sticking to my story”. Often it turns out to be a “story” rather than a factual account.

Objection: “there’s no book on grieving”
    Answer: “Yes, there is.”

Mountains of research exists on this topic. The research that is used in criminal investigations is broken down into 2 parts:

    1. How guilty people react
    2. How innocent people react

It is the same with 80+ years of polygraph results. There are certain things expected under certain circumstances which can guide an investigator. It is just one small aspect, but it is useful in steering an investigation.

Sorry Rob, my owm instincts from watching Tiffany’s interviews & inconsistent stories, no emotion, no calls for justice leads me & others to believe she’s a liar.

I’m no professional but have read statement analysis & criminal profilers opinions of Ms. Hartley & it confirms my belief she’s lying.

Nothing political or mean spirited, I wiish she were telling the truth.

She’s already caused a man to be beheaded imo & liars have a way of destroying everyone & everything in their path.

I don’t know if she pulled the trigger herself but I think she knows who killed her husband & is involved. So need to get nasty about it.

And polygraphs are very telling even before the person takes one.

Their willingness says a lot about their involvement, because if you have nothing to hide as Mark Klaas a crime victim, his daughter Polly was kidnapped, raped & murdered said you will demand taking one to clear your name & have LE move on to the real criminals.

Tiffany has been hedging & saying maybe I’ll take one but Sheriff sigi says I don’t need to bla, bla, bla, bullshit since day one.

  12. Gina on October 23rd, 2010 8:12 pm

Why are you so nasty Rob? Tiffany’s lying OK…I think sooner or later it will be proved… ummm later dude….

  13. Rob Taylor on October 23rd, 2010 8:16 pm

I am not going to tell you guys again to stop putting that hacks links in my comments.

You think she’s guilty? OK. Who killed the Mexican investigator?

But if you think she’ guilty because you believe in the BOGUS “science” of body language or because people don’t take polygraphs that’s just nonsense. No lawyer would let you take a polygraph, period. It’s junk science that you’re placing your life in.

  14. Gina on October 23rd, 2010 8:17 pm

    Exactly Karen, Tiffany is lying.

  15. Rob Taylor on October 23rd, 2010 8:19 pm

Lying you when you pretend to be Karen?

  16. Gina on October 23rd, 2010 8:24 pm

The drug cartel killed the investigator for falsely accusing them of killing David. They flaunted the murder by sending the head to wherever, which proves to me they wouldn’t have bothered to “get rid of” David’s body or the jet ski both by some miracle vanished into thin air.

Tiffany Hartley is lying, the events where explained too many different ways in “her story” which by the way is a leak of guilt. Saying “my story” is weird & no one would say that if it was true, they’d say this is what happened.

Shw was close enough to try to “lift his body” but still keeps changing what part of his body was shot. The head, neck, back of head, forehead? She begged the “pirtaes” “please don’t shoot me” then she says she never taled to “the pirates & much much more deception & half cocked bull crap she says contradicts what she said just a day or two before in a different “media interview”.

Tiffany Hartley is a liar, but I don’t know why she’s lying. IMO insurance scam, a boyfriend for hire, or she deserted him at Falcon Lake is lying about the details of trying to save him.

  17. Gina on October 23rd, 2010 8:26 pm

I’m not pretending to be anyone jeez Rob you are truly disturbed by anyone who’s opinion is different than yours.

Guess what?? There’s more than 2 of us who thinks Tiffany Hartley is a LIAR…DEAL WITH IT.

  18. Gina on October 23rd, 2010 8:32 pm

Think about it Rob, nice to meet you…ba bye!

  19. Gina on October 23rd, 2010 8:38 pm

No bullet holes in Tiffany’s jet ski, now that is a miracle considering she said she saw & “heard” bullets wizzing by her & aimed at her. She also said she looked down “the barrel of a gun” yet can’t describe anything about the men shooting at David & her.

And the “pirates” got a clean head shot on David while he was speding at over 75 mph on his “superfast” jet ski. And they got close enough to Tiffany for her to look down the “barrel of a gun” yet they spared her life, uh huh…sure they did!!

Now I’m really gone from here..just more food for thought. Jet Ski Barbie’s “story” doesn’t add up.

  20. Rob Taylor on October 23rd, 2010 9:10 pm

So you guys think that cartels kill people to prove their innocence. Got it.

And all your “discrepancies” and based on groupie-ism, things these snakeoil sales people are claiming. You don’t think a person on a jet ski can be shot? How do we shoot down planes morons? It’s called leading a target and it’s how people shoot birds, or running targets. You guys are saying she’s guilty because she’s blond and pretty and you want her to be guilty.

Gina if you want me to think you’re two people don’t reply to yourself but leave the wrong name in the comment you’re replying to.

Hyatt is a hack and I will not allow links to hacky blogs on my site.

  21. Gina on October 23rd, 2010 9:28 pm

Gina if you want me to think you’re two people don’t reply to yourself but leave the wrong name in the comment you’re replying to.

Huh?? I responded to Karen. WHATEVER…
Paranoid..aren’t we??? You’ve been a blast but I must leave you to your own delusional thoughts now. Good night & have a relaxing Sunday Rob…it’s been fun.

By the way I wish Tiffany were telling the truth. It’s frustrating to me to see a blatant liar go unchallenged because of a hot button topic like the Mexican borders.

But her “stories” have been too many & she’s changed them too often & they are too ridiculous to be fact. Tiffany is lying but as I said I’m not sure why.

  22. Gina on October 23rd, 2010 9:33 pm

One more thing, imo the beheading proves that if they killed David they wouldn’t hide the body, that proves even more that she’s lying & is somehow involved. The drug cartels could care less about the body being found, matter of fact these tactics, like the beheading is their trademark.

Why would they hide David’s body, the jet ski & spare tiffany’s life. It makes absolutely no sense. They are fearless & leave no one alive in their criminal activities, except Jet Ski Barbie, let her get away, a witness to murder, nah I don’t buy it for a second.

  23. Rob Taylor on October 23rd, 2010 9:39 pm

They didn’t hide his body it’s in a lake THE SIZE OF VERMONT. You really are retarded aren’t you?

  24. Gina on October 23rd, 2010 9:44 pm

I guess the waterski vanished too because…wow the lake is the size of Vermont. OK whatever dude…

  25. Gina on October 23rd, 2010 11:30 pm

Oh by the way the whole premise & title of this blog is incorrect since Pat Brown DID NOT ERASE HER BLOG.

You are wrong on so many levels, including the subject of your article.

  26. Rob Taylor on October 24th, 2010 3:57 pm

She has a DIFFERENT VERSION than the one that was on her personal blog. I mention that in the piece but, you know, since you didn’t read it…

And why can’t you get the no link policy?

  27. Concerned resident on October 25th, 2010 5:09 pm

Whatever happened to ‘innocent until proven guilty’? One reason I love this country is because in the court’s eyes you are innocent until THEY prove you otherwise; not the media or armchair critics/detectives… I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about inconsistencies in Tiffany Hartley’s story. There are a lot of stories of people who have been under fire and they can’t remember exactly what happened. There’s a teeny, tiny little chemical in your body called adrenaline; when this puppy runs through your system in large amounts you’ll be hard pressed to remember your ABC’s.
Question: How can the murder of the police investigator be tied with David Hartley’s murder? I somehow doubt that this was the only case the police investigator was working on. With all the different murders that occur DAILY because of the current Mexican war on drugs, the investigator could have gotten murdered because of an entirely different case…
    Just my $0.02

  28. Rob Taylor on October 25th, 2010 5:56 pm

The CNN report specifically states the man was murdered after beginning the investigation into the Hartly murder.

  29. Concerned resident on October 26th, 2010 3:32 pm

Damn… I really hope that doesn’t stop other police taking up where the murdered investigator left off.

  30. Rob Taylor on October 26th, 2010 3:51 pm

Wouldn’t it stop you? Cops in Mexico can’t risk the wrath of the cartels.

  31. L on October 31st, 2010 7:08 pm

the story is still on her blog.. I just read it there.

and Tiffy is covering up something. She can’t get her stories straight.

  32. Rob Taylor on October 31st, 2010 7:34 pm

No L there is now a different version up that appeared on Women in Crime Ink and then may have migrated back. But her original version was taken down.

    Brown’s the one hiding something.

  33. Ari Stein on November 17th, 2010 9:31 pm

Ugh. Typical right-wing nut job B.S. Read a book for once people! And not the Bible.

This woman clearly shows no signs of being in grief during certain interviews and in others she seems like she is working really hard to force out some form of insincere grief. I’m not buying it!

If it had truly been “Mexican Pirates,” they would have killed her too. We’ve all seen the disregard for life these criminals have, they have no problems wiping out entire families. What incentive would they have to let her live?

I believe she had something to do with it. I also believe that right-wingers are using this false scenario as political fodder for their hateful anti-Mexican immigrant campaign.

If you’ve not been to a university and taken at least the minimum required general ed. course “Psychology 101,” you’ve no room to call character profiling, personality profiling, and body language interpretation “bunk.”

Just because you don’t understand scientific evidence and statistics backing this, just because you can’t grasp advanced concepts further than “immigrant=bad/Palin-good” doesn’t mean that something is “bunk!”

There is something very suspicious about this woman, Mrs. Hartley. There is something about the way she carries herself and there are problems with her story (because that what it is). Once all of the political pundits, right wing ignoramuses, and rags like this blog find their next sensation and the dust settles, the truth will come out and I have no doubts that Mrs. Hartley will be found guilty of some level of involvement.

  34. Erin on January 6th, 2011 10:24 pm

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Peter Hyatt is an investigator with the state of Maine. I believe from previous postings that he is located in Bangor, but I could be wrong about that. He also apparently teaches the principles of statement analysis in one of the colleges up there. So while you may find fault with his conclusions, he is highly qualified to make the analyses.

  35. Rob Taylor on January 6th, 2011 10:30 pm

So every cop is qualified to claim something which isn’t true, got it.

So when Pat Brown said the Ft Hood massacre WASN’T about terrorism or Islam where was Peter Hyatt’s mighty investigative powers?

  36. Meg on June 6th, 2011 2:06 pm

Thanks Rob for your insight into this case and the grifter Pat Brown. She’s now latched on to the Madeleine McCann case and has her groupies going gaga over every word she says about Kate McCann’s book, Madeleine.

I wish someone tell this woman and her minions to shut-up. They do more harm to crime cases than the criminals themselves. I’m sure criminals are laughing at her ’cause she’s got it so wrong. I live in the DC area and EVERYONE here knows that she’s a con artist. It’s too bad that the rest of the world doesn’t. She’s now selling her snake oil to the gullible people in the UK.

  37. Rob Taylor on June 6th, 2011 3:43 pm

No problem Meg, I might do a follow up on her.

  38. Peter on November 6th, 2011 1:49 pm

Her latest thing is that she is now going to sue the McCanns because ‘they got her manky pamphlet of lies and disinformation taken off Amazon’s site’which is a load of bullsh!t, and she also claims they have libelled her. A ridiculous remarks as nobody can find anything, anywhere in which the McCanns even mention her.

  39. Eleanor on November 6th, 2011 2:03 pm

You all might be very surprised by what Europe and other parts of The World think of Pat Brown. Attacking The McCanns was a very bad move. We now know what she has been up to in the past, and she is a laughing stock who is causing much merriment among those of us who aren’t entirely stupid.
And some of us aren’t too impressed with Lillian Glass and Nancy Grace either.

Thank God for The Internet. At least, most of the time.

  40. Peter on November 6th, 2011 2:28 pm

Re Nancy Grace, who could be impressed with a silly woman who ‘does a Janet Jackson’ on Dancing with the Stars and calls it a ‘wardrobe malfunction’? As for Lillian Glass, isn’t she the one who claims she’s an expert in body language? I wish someone would do an in depth search into Pat Brown; I am sure there are many nasty things hidden under her carpet.

  41. Eleanor on November 6th, 2011 2:56 pm

We’re working on it, Peter. Just give us a minute or ten.

  42. Rob Taylor on November 6th, 2011 3:16 pm

  46. William Adams on November 6th, 2011 5:03 pm

With regard to the crap so called ‘Profile’ brown tried to sell on Amazon re. the McCanns, these people did a wonderful job of taking it to pieces. If it is of any help please feel free to use it.

  47. Peter on November 6th, 2011 5:21 pm

This blogsite is one of the best; it has loads of info on what Brown and others have been up to re the McCanns and Madeleine. I have set the link so it goes straight into the Bush Meat Patty posts.

  48. Peter on November 7th, 2011 4:36 am

From the latest twitter messages, it would appear she has managed to con a lot of idiots, some of whom are prepared, in this time of austerity and severe cutbacks, to fund her preposterous scheme to go and search Praia del Luz, Spain, Rothley and all points in every direction to prove her stupid ‘theories’. She is, I notice, planning this ‘expedition’ at exactly the same time, in February 2011, that the corrupt cop in the case is in court on libel charges. Well, fools and their money are soon parted, so don’t anyone come crying and wailing in my direction that they were conned, because they will get no sympathy from me.

  49. Posey on November 19th, 2011 11:32 am

Lillian Glass has a sketchy background, and frankly her blog seems to be written after consuming a few glasses of wine, oddly phrased, typos, outright misspellings and some iffy grammar. In other words not terribly professional, but a site meant to generate speaking engagements, in plain Engrish moolah for herself.

If you want to follow someone who is a real expert, an expert that is well educated and the real deal check out Patti Wood. http://www.pattiwood.net/ You will notice a great deal of “borrowing” by Lillian Glass, it’s funny I thought Glass was ridiculous but the idea behind what she couldn’t communicate well was good and I happened to see Patti Wood interviewed and realized that she indeed really knows and understands the subject. So it’s not the goobledegook that Lillian and Pat Brown put forth for a buck but a thoughtful professional that can actually produce solid results.

@Rob “you want the woman to be a liar to prove a politically correct point” Sort of like how you want the woman to be telling the truth about what happened so that it can confirm your bigoted and racist beliefs, right? I have no idea if she’s telling the complete truth or not.
