Authorities Mull Lynching Charges in Brutal Carter Strange Beating

Here is the aftermath of a brutal gang assault by a group of teens that only included one adult:

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – All eight suspects are in custody after a brutal attack in Five Points early Monday morning which left the teenage victim in critical condition, according to Columbia police.

Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said 19-year-old Thyeem Henrey was charged with second degree assault and battery by mob, common law robbery, and criminal conspiracy. He appeared in court Friday afternoon where the judge set bond at $750,000. That bond does not allow Henrey’s release upon posting only 10%, which is sometimes permitted by the court.

[...]

The 19-year-old is the only adult in a group of eight being held by Columbia police. The other seven suspects are all juveniles, according to Timmons. Their names cannot be released.

She said a 14-year-old, 15-year-old, and 16-year-old were charged with strong arm robbery, second degree assault and battery by a mob, and criminal conspiracy.

A 13-year-old and three other 16-year-olds were all charged with criminal conspiracy, according to Timmons.

Similar hearings will be held for the juvenile suspects. One of the 16-year-olds also had a bond hearing Friday afternoon, but reporters were not allowed inside.

Timmons said most of the suspects turned themselves in with their parents after the surveillance footage was shown on the news.

Police Chief Randy Scott said the 18-year-old victim, later identified as Carter Strange, was jogging through a parking lot near the intersection of Blossom Street and Saluda Avenue just after midnight on Monday when the assault happened. “This teenager was minding his own business, trying to make his curfew when he was brutally attacked and robbed,” said Scott.

Police said Henrey and the seven juveniles he was with were roaming Five Points, targeting others until they came across strange. In fact, investigators said the group tried unsuccessfully to rob or assault at least four other people.

This is evil. These thugs were out to do this, they attempted to four other times before. The parents of these scum should be charged as well. Here’s video:

14-Month-Old Almost Dies During Mother’s Shoplifting Spree

Thank the Gods! House Approves Amazon Deal!

Hail Woden!

Finally people have come to their senses! From GoUpstate.com:

In a stunning reversal, the state House overwhelmingly approved a five-year sales-tax exemption today for Amazon to build a distribution center in Cayce.

The measure passed 97-20 three weeks after the House rejected it by a vote of 71-47. The online retailer halted work on the center and stopped hiring the first of the 1,249 jobs when the incentive was turned down.

Lexington County lawmakers and business leaders said Amazon could build three additional sites in South Carolina if it did not have to collect sales taxes from state residents for five years. Two of the other sites are in Spartanburg and Cayce.

House Republican leader Kenny Bingham, R-Lexington, said on the House floor that Amazon would invest at least $125 million and create 2,000 jobs in South Carolina.

As usual the “brick and morter” businesses are claiming that this will hurt their bottom line – which doesn’t make sense because Amazon would continue to operate the same way whether they created jobs here or not. Amazon is under attack because it is the last free market in the world, and these businesses that have hopped on Wal-Mart’s coat tails should be taking advantage of the Amazon platform instead of literally trying to put force people into their storefronts.

Anyway, my prayers were yet again answered – proving I am much beloved by all the gods everywhere. Suck it Wal-Mart!

Finally a Little Common Sense for Unemployment Insurance

In South Carolina unemployment payments make up a too large part of our budget. Reigning in those costs should be a priority for legislators and doing it using an existing structure like E-Verify makes good financial sense. We cannot afford to pay illegal aliens unemployment after they took jobs from South Carolinians, which is one of the reasons for our high unemployment rate anyway.

This is a good idea:

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Lawmakers are considering a bill requiring South Carolina’s unemployment agency to verify if laid off workers are in the country legally.

The measure is up for debate Tuesday in a House labor subcommittee. State law already bars illegal workers from drawing unemployment checks. A spokeswoman for the Department of Employment and Workforce says the agency has no information on that being a problem.

The bill would require the agency to screen applicants using the federal program known as E-Verify.

The state already requires businesses to check their employees’ status either with E-verify or by hiring only workers with a valid driver’s license.

Freshman Republican Rep. Tom Corbin of Travelers Rest says the driver’s license provision allows a loophole.

Of course it does because illegal aliens use phony identification, often crafted by stolen identity rings. Cracking down on people collecting benefits that they are not eligible for is a good step toward fiscal sanity.

Cop Killing Aryan Brotherhood Member Finally Stopped from Facebooking

Remember that South Carolina inmate doing 30 years for killing a cop who was posting pictures on Facebook? Authorities have finally taken his phone from him.

CHARLESTON, S.C. — South Carolina prison officials said they have seized a cell phone from an inmate who was updating his Facebook page from prison.

Corrections officials told The Post and Courier of Charleston that 22-year-old Quincy Howard is in disciplinary detention and cannot make collect calls or have visitors after the contraband mobile phone was taken from his cell earlier this month.

Howard is serving a 30-year sentence for manslaughter from Marion County.

The newspaper reports Howard spent most of his time on Facebook last year playing the Mafia Wars and Cafe World games. But he occasionally gave status updates like: “Railroaded by this crooked a judicial system in South Carolina.”

Howard’s profile picture was a photo of him in his prison jumpsuit.

Only what? Three or four months after the story broke? Good work, guys.
