Autistic Mauldin Woman in Runs Off to Virginia for Internet Boyfriend?
This report claims that finding out your autistic daughter ran off secretly with her baby to “be with” some weirdo she met online is a happy ending. I’m predicting that when all is said and done, not so much. Stick with it until the end – does this sound right to you?

Mauldin Man Exposes Public Utility Scam
This story is interesting because the South Carolina public utility head basically admits that they run a scam based on the theory that you don’t keep records of payments to them for more than a few years. From FortWayne.com:
MAULDIN, S.C. — The head of a public utility in South Carolina says he’s amazed someone saved 10-year-old records. Now the chief of the Greenville Water System is set to apologize personally to a customer wrongly accused of not paying two water bills dating to 2001.
The utility sent past-due notices to Randy Massengale of Mauldin. Massengale says he called to say there must be a mistake, but employees refused to believe him and told him to pay up.
Massengale says he put the notices aside until a utility representative came knocking, threatening to shut off his water. But Massengale retrieved his old bank statement and check register, proving he paid a decade ago.
Utility chief executive David Bereskin called the case a fluke and promised an apology.
I believe the first sentence should have read he was annoyed to find that. I’m sure many people have had the same experience but didn’t have the meticulous record keeping of Messengale. Good for him, and a warning for the rest of us. Keep those receipts.
Support Mauldin’s Bar Hour Limit!
The city council is proposing a law that would make bars shut down at 2:00am – which isn’t a big deal since bars must stop serving alcohol at 2:00 anyway. But Hailee’s Sports Bar stays open to 5:00am for some reason. Which is odd since a bar would literally be losing money for three hours a day doing so. It’s almost like something else goes on in there for the last three hours that is profitable for the owners.
Like their taking a cut of something illegal maybe?
Anyway for those of you who don’t know Hailee’s was the scene of a early morning shooting which is said to be a drug deal gone bad. Now the owner is upset that Mauldin wants to nip this nonsense in the bud:
The owner of Hailee’s Sports Bar and Grill on Woodruff Road says his bar stays open to 5 AM. And by state law he can continue to sale beer and wine after two AM. The owner believes city leaders are targeting him because of recent shootings in his parking lot. The change in the ordinance would impact his business. The city’s six other bars would not be affected by the ordinance because they close at two AM. The ordinance first reading is scheduled for Monday.
Poor baby. He just wants to stay open and not sell alcohol but pay a staff to work there including security. Out of the goodness of his heart. If I wasn’t so busy I’d show up at that reading and tell the council I support it. But Monday’s are tight for me – I’ll be busy not selling drugs in a bar I own.
Mauldin Woman Arrested in Botched Butt Implant Procedure
Michelle Madrid Roca, who owns the oddly named Coconuk Boutique, was selling more than clothing and jewelry to her clientele. Apparently the 35-year-old was selling cut rate medical procedures performed in at least one case by a Colombian doctor she flew in but who is not licensed to practice medicine here.
On Tuesday, March 10th a woman drove down from New Jersey to have said doctor inject botox in her butt. Or that’s the story Roca is claiming because now the woman is in a coma. Doctors said her symptoms looked suspiciously similar to someone who had a silicone implant rupture in them.

Michelle Madrid Roca, 35, has been charged with practicing medicine without a license.
Police said Roca owns the Coconuk Boutique, which she closed recently. They said Roca arranged an illegal cosmetic procedure at her shop with a Colombian doctor who is not licensed to practice in this country.
Detective Jason Peterson said the client had an injection March 10 and was eventually taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital and is in a coma.
Peterson said the woman was injected with what was supposed to be botox. He said doctors said her symptoms were similar to silicone implants ruptures. Her name was not released.
Police said the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation is also involved in the investigation because of other procedures that were performed without a license at the business.
I heard that Roca has specifically targeted Latin and Central American immigrants, legal and not so legal, who are either non-English speakers or are uncomfortable with American doctors for some reason.
It reminds me of a scam in Yonkers, NY I heard of before I moved here from the Bronx. People were opening notary businesses in Hispanic areas because many of the immigrants thought a notary was a lawyer. The crooks were then charging them lawyer fees for work they weren’t qualified to do. Illegals were especially targeted because they didn’t know English and had no recourse if they did manage to find out that in America a lawyer has to do more than pay $25 and pass a test.
Anyway, the victim is still in a coma and police think there have been multiple victims of Roca and her fraudulent medical practice. Ladies, I know Coco looks great, but I’m pretty sure she didn’t get her work done in the back of a closed down thrift shop located in a strip mall. Use a real doctor if you’re getting work done.
Victimless Crime File: Hailee’s Sports Bar Shooting Proves Drunks Suck
Police are searching for a man who pulled into the parking lot of Hailee’s Sports Bar and Grill and fired 13 shots into the crowd. The Mauldin bar was open late to cater to people in the “service industry” which people claim to mean waiters and the like but in most cases you’re talking about strippers, tweaked out truck drivers and professional bar hoppers.
The shooting happened at 4:50am.
Call me crazy but people who work the night shift usually go home and get some sleep afterward. There aren’t many stable people who are getting drunk at 5:00 in the morning and heading to their cars to drive home. Drunk.
But I digress. The shooting, as the almost intrepid Paul Alongi of the Greenville News fails to point out, was a bar fight gone bad with a stranger no one seems to know. An altercation earlier in the night led to the shooter getting tossed out. Like any good belligerent drunk he didn’t take kindly to that and mayhem ensued. Three of the shooting victims are expected to pull through but police have no description of the man or his car, so I expect him to be on the loose for awhile.
Why bars are built in places only accessable to cars is a mystery we’ll never really figure out – though I expect it has to do with city planners factoring in DUI fines for upcoming budgets. But for those of you who don’t know why this crime happened let me enlighten you.
Drunks suck.
The only thing worse than a drunk is a room full of drunks, or what we call a bar. Bars are caverns of misery where unhappy people go to pretend their lives are still worth living – which is why there’s so much sex in the bathrooms. If you don’t want to end up in a fight with someone who might come back and bust a cap in you your first step will be to stay out of bars that serve drinks until 5:00 in the morning next to a highway.
I’m sure Hailee’s is one of the nicer places that gets people buzzed before putting them in their cars so they can kill the rest of us in “accidents” but even the nicest bar is a place people gather whose lives are not where they wanted them to be. Happy people don’t need to get drunk, angry people do. Angry people who drink tend to get angrier.
So if there is one lesson to be learned here it’s that drunks really suck and you should stay away from anyone who thinks it’s fun to drink until they vomit, blackout and wake up with a warrant for attempted murder.
Hmmm. Odd, alcohol is legal yet there is crime and social ills related to drinking. But I thought once something was legal crime and abuse disappeared? Libertarians I’m looking at you.
