A 16-year-old girl was viciously assaulted New Year’s Day in Mauldin’s Sunset Park, investigators say.  The teen was attacked around 9 a.m. Friday morning at the park on Fowler Circle, and Mauldin Police say the assailant tipped them to her location.

Investigators said they received an anonymous 911 call from someone saying they had just severely injured a young girl at the park.

Officers responding to the scene said they found an unconscious teen in the park.

Police told FOX Carolina News that upon further investigation they determined that the girl was assaulted by an unknown man who regularly visits the park.

Authorities described the man as black, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 to 190 pounds. They said he has a dark complexion with a full beard and goatee.

Investigators said he was last seen wearing a tan knee-length jacket, black leather gloves and a black hat.

The girl sustained head injuries while attempting to fight off the attacker, and was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.  Her injuries are not expected to be life threatening.
