Welfare Fraud Costing Taxpayers Half a Trillion Dollars Per Year

Illegal immigrants are using American welfare programs at higher rates than Americans and it’s costing the taxpayers $517.,000,000, 000 each and every year. The real problem here is Marxism – immigrants from Marxist and quasi-Marxist countries have had the idea of government handing out money ingrained in them and they see America as wealthy enough to keep that scheme going indefinitely. Of course as as the wave of municipal and state bankruptcies begin to really speed up that assumption is being proven as false as all Marxist ideas.

From Judicial Watch:

Even before the recession, immigrant households with children used welfare programs at consistently higher rates than natives, according to the extensive census data collected and analyzed by a nonpartisanWashington D.C. group dedicated to researching legal and illegal immigration in the U.S. The results, published this month in a lengthy report, are hardly surprising.Basically, the majority of households across the country benefitting from publicly-funded welfare programs are headed by immigrants, both legal and illegal. States where immigrant households with children have the highest welfare use rates are Arizona (62%), Texas, California and New York with 61% each and Pennsylvania(59%).The study focused on eight major welfare programs that cost the government $517 billion the year they were examined. They include Supplemental Security Income (SSI) for the disabled, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), a nutritional program known as Women, Infants and Children (WIC), food stamps, free/reduced school lunch, public housing and health insurance for the poor (Medicaid).Food assistance and Medicaid are the programs most commonly used by illegal immigrants, mainly on behalf of their American-born children who get automatic citizenship. On the other hand, legal immigrant households take advantage of every available welfare program, according to the study, which attributes it to low education level and resulting low income. The highest rate of welfare recipients come from the Dominican Republic (82 %), Mexico and Guatemala (75%) and Ecuador (70%), according to the report, which says welfare use tends to be high for both new arrivals and established residents.

As you can see it isn’t legal status that drives this problem, it’s lack of assimilation. Immigrants are not fully participating in the American culture and are becoming a permanent underclass – just the way the left likes it. And the fact that many of these immigrants are in fact working under the table is dealt with in the study. In Latin American countries that sort of corruption is expected, here it should not be.

Can you afford to pay higher and higher taxes every year to keep subsidizing this sort of corruption? I can’t.

I just wanted to point out an error. The $517 billion figure is the cost of these programs for all immigrants and natives combined, not just illegals.

Which is why it’s called Welfare fraud and I point out that legal status is not the issue. However having lived among immigrant populations I can say that they use welfare in general at a far lower rate and this study is flawed by using immigrants who are legal and might have worked but still been eligible for various social services. For example many legal immigrants work construction and like all construction workers get unemployment and SNAP benefits when work is slow. Adding those people in muddies the waters.

Even their numbers show that welfare use varies by national origin. Dominicans collect more than refugees from other countries who have entered for humanitarian reasons. All interesting stuff but the key for this blog is the fraud involved. Illegals are obviously not supposed to be collecting anything and many immigrants are working while collecting. I could write a political essay on this but I just wanted to link to the study so people get their own info and agree or disagree.

My one and only question is this: If people know that this is going on, why is nothing being done about it? Our government is over $15 Trillion in debt. That means that as an average tax paying American, I am responsible for a portion of that debt that honestly keeps rising more in a day that most people make in a year, and honestly I feel stupid because while my government gives me very little assistance, that same government will give billions upon billion to big business, automakers, Wall Street Banks, other countries, and even illegal immigrants who live here. Can anyone tell me why our government continues to spend money it doesn’t have, in most cases, for things it shouldn’t be spending money on in the first place.

Where are you getting your statistics?
You state that “Illegal immigrants are using American welfare programs at higher rates than Americans and it’s costing the taxpayers $517.,000,000, 000 each and every year.”

I’d like to find out more about this, but it’s important to know where you are getting your information.

As the post points out the study was by CIS who used census data as well as data from the programs themselves (medicare etc) and came to me via Judicial Watch which is a libertarian leaning group sort of like Copwatch. But htis is an older post so you can look up more current information through the CBO website or other gov’t sites.
